The Tune I Want to Share With You: Chapter 1
[Location: Blanchett Castle guest room]
Akira: (It’s raining… There’s something really soothing about the sound of it.)
We visited Heathcliff’s home, Blanchett Castle, for a joint training between the Eastern and Central wizards.
Akira: Ah, didn’t Heath say that his mana area is being under the covers on a rainy day?
Akira: (Listening to the rain like this does feel like my head is clearing up. It might work even better if I imitate Heath…)
Akira: …...Maybe I should try getting into bed too.
Faust: Sage, are you there?
Akira: Faust? Please wait a minー Ahh!
Akira: Ow...
(Door opens)
Riquet: I heard a loud sound just now. Is everything okay?!
Akira: Ah…...
Faust and Riquet: ……………
Faust: What are you doing? Lying on the floor with a blanket over your head...
Riquet: Were you taking a nap, perhaps? And then you fell out of bed?
Akira: Ahaha...
Akira: (I definitely can’t tell them I was trying to pretend being in Heath’s mana area…)
Akira: It’s rare to see you two together. Is something the matter?
Riquet: I asked Faust to come with me because I wanted him to give me lessons.
Akira: Lessons?
Faust: Yeah. We had to cancel the training we planned because of the rain.
Faust: But Riquet said that spending the day leisurely is an exhibition of laziness, so he came to see me.
Akira: I see… You’re very hardworking, Riquet. Is there any reason you two came to see me?
Faust: I already have a plan for today: staying in my room and relaxing.
Faust: So I’ll leave him in your care, Sage.
Akira and Riquet: Huh?!
Faust: You already have Oz, and he’s a great teacher. There’s nothing left for me to teach you.
Faust: Besides, you’ll have a better time with the Sage than me.
His words might have sounded cold, but nothing in his eyes seemed to indicate that Riquet was being a bother to him. It was just Faust showing consideration in his own way. Nonetheless, Riquet slumped his shoulders in disappointment.
Riquet: Of course, I love being with the Master Sage. But I had still hoped that you would be able to teach me something…...
Faust: ……………
Akira: ...Um, then how about I join Faust's class, too?
Faust: Huh? Why?
Akira: I know I can't use magic, but hearing about this world’s magic has always been enjoyable for me. I've always wanted to be part of Faust's classes, too...
Faust: ……………
The Tune I Want to Share With You: Chapter 2
[Location: Blanchett Castle guest room]
Faust reluctantly accepted our request, and cast his spell to start the lesson.
Faust:《 Satillquinart Mulcreed 》
A small wooden box then appeared in his hand, and Riquet’s face lit up when he opened the lid.
Riquet: Is this a music box? I've seen one before, when Mitile and I went shopping at the market.
Faust: This was a possession of Heath and Shino’s former mentor. It’s one of the things he left behind in the castle, and I decided to borrow it.
Akira: Is it a magical item?
Faust: It is. It’s a music box called the “Memory Sound Box.” It’s capable of playing a song that’s on your mind at the moment.
Faust: It’s more like a toy, but it will help you practice controlling your magic. Riquet, try playing a song that you like.
Riquet: A song I like… Um…...
Akira: (Riquet might find it difficult to think of one right away, since he grew up in a place where he never heard music…)
Faust: …...Riquet. Do you like the sound of rain?
Riquet: I do! It’s quiet, sacred and calming.
Faust: Then close your eyes and listen to it.
Riquet: …………..
Riquet:《 Sunrotea Edif 》
(Strange sound)
Riquet and Akira: Wah!!
As soon as he cast his spell, the music box made a loud and strange noise that can't be described as either rain or singing, and Riquet immediately closed it.
Akira: T-That was really loud...
Riquet: Yes, it surprised me… My ears hurt.
Faust: You put too much magic into it. Relax your shoulders a bit more.
Faust: Don’t rush, just enjoy the sound.
Riquet: Don’t rush, just enjoy...
Riquet:《 Sunrotea Edif 》
(Music box plays)
He opened the lid of the music box again, and a lovely tune came out this time.
Riquet: Wow…! It harmonizes beautifully with the sound of the rain outside.
Akira: It’s a wonderful tune.
Faust: Yeah. Well done.
Riquet: Thank you so much. I was able to do it because of your advice, Faust.
Riquet: ...That reminds me. I also like the sound of Rustica’s harpsichord, as well as the sound of the mechanism in the fountain that I heard earlier.
Riquet: How about you, Master Sage? Do you have music that you like? Would you like me to play it on the music box?
When Riquet asked me, what came to mind was a piece of music in my world that I used to often listen to.
Akira: (I’d definitely love to listen to it again, but right now I’m more interested in…)
Akira: Thank you so much, Riquet. But right now I want to hear more of what you like!
Riquet: Is that so? I understand. Please leave it to me!
The Tune I Want to Share With You: Chapter 3
[Location: Blanchett Castle guest room]
Riquet: Zzzz…
Cain: Haha, he’s sleeping well. I guess he really enjoyed class with you.
Akira: I’m sorry we had to ask you to pick him up, Cain.
Cain: It’s fine. I should be the one thanking you for watching over him.
Faust: I didn't do much. He gave it his all, so you should let him get a good rest.
Cain left the room while carrying a sleeping Riquet on his back. After the door closed, I turned to Faust once again.
Akira: Thank you so much, Faust. That was a lot of fun. I’m sorry you had to do this when you’re supposed to be resting.
Faust: No… I’m sorry I roped you into this.
Faust: I’d like to make up for that, so let me know if there’s anything I can do for you.
Akira: No, it’s...
Akira: (...Wait. I think I could ask him to play that song.)
Akira: ...Can I use the “Memory Sound Box” to play the songs I have in mind?
Faust: In your mind…?
Akira: But if it’s too much to ask, then...
Faust: ...It’s fine. I’ve never really tried doing it for other people, but I don’t think it’s completely impossible.
Faust: Alright. Now close your eyes and calm your mind...
I did as Faust instructed, and the sound of rain resounded through the quiet room.
I imagined that song—that song I listened to so many times, back in that now-faraway world.
As I was remembering that nostalgic music, I felt Faust’s hand on my shoulder.
Faust:《 Satillquinart Mulcreed 》
Akira: (Ah. The sound of rain is fading…)
The sound of the delicate music box played the song that I was thinking of.
Akira: ………! Faust, this song is…!
I opened my eyes without a second thought, and the song got replaced by a loud and strange noise.
Akira: Wah!
Faust: Sorry, are you okay?
Akira: Y-Yes. It’s because I got distracted, isn’t it? I’m sorry.
Akira: But that definitely was my favorite song I heard just now!
Akira: I’m really happy! Thank you so much, Faust.
Faust: You’re welcome.
Akira: ...Um. Is it okay if I ask you to do it one more time?
Faust: Don’t give me that childish look. You can ask another wizard next time.
Faust: For Riquet… He should be able to do the same thing after more training.
Akira: You’re right… He played a lot of songs for us during your lesson.
Faust: ……...So just one more time.
With a wry smile, Faust laid his hand against my shoulder.
...And my lips parted into a smile as I thought of the song I love once more.
Card Episode: Secret Worries
[Location: Hallway]
Akira: Hello, Faust. That basket you’re carrying...
Akira: Wow! It’s full of cookies. Are those from Nero?
Faust: No, I got them from Riquet. He said he baked these for me as thanks for the lesson I gave him the other day.
Akira: What a cute thank you gift! Riquet enjoyed himself a lot back then, didn’t he?
Akira: Do you often help Riquet with his studies?
Faust: Not much. Oz is his teacher, so if he has any concerns, it’s only logical to consult him first.
Faust: Not to mention that Riquet seems to adore Oz. I’ve seen him pretty passionately hurling all sorts of questions at him.
Akira: You’re right. Riquet works really hard, and Oz seems to guide him well.
Faust: Yeah……...
Akira: Is something wrong?
Faust: ...No. It’s just this teacher and his student. I think they have a good relationship. It’s nice that Riquet is such a studious child.
Faust: But Riquet may be too pushy towards Oz at times, and I can’t help but feel bad when I see it.
Faust: That’s just my one minor concern about them…...
Akira: (I think I understand what he’s saying…)
Special Home Screen Line
Faust: You’re always acting so cheerful, but this world is still a place you’re unaccustomed to living in. It’s understandable for you to have worries. Even so, your wizards are here to protect you. It’s alright to complain when things get rough.
