Central Country’s National Holiday: Chapter 1

[Location: Courtyard, morning]

Akira: Hey guys. It's rare to see the Eastern wizards together. Are you guys going out? 

Heathcliff: Hello, Master Sage. We’re actually about to start our class with Master Faust.

Shino: He said he won’t let us join the combat missions if we don’t take class seriously.

Nero: Well, I just sorta ended up taggin’ along.

Faust: Sigh... How did I even end up with this responsibility?

Akira: (That's what he says, but he goes along with it anyway. He's a good person with an earnest heart.) 

(Footsteps, collision)

Akira: Waa?!

Cain: Ah! Sorry, Akira! Are you okay? I didn’t see you...

Akira: Cain! Right, we haven’t met today yet.

Akira: (Cain is unable to see people unless he touches them. It’s a very serious affliction.)

Heathcliff: That’s right. I didn’t see you during breakfast. Is it okay if I touch you, Cain?

Cain: Oh, thanks, Heath, didn’t know you were here too. If there's anyone else here, can ya touch me too? Yawn…

Akira: You look drowsy. Did you sleep in this morning?

Cain: Yep. Central’s celebrating a national holiday today. It's a day off for everyone, so I just overslept.

Nero: Today? What’cha celebratin’ for?

Cain: It's the day the Holy Wizard Faust was born. It's a national holiday that's celebrated every year.

Akira: The Holy Wizard… Faust?

Akira: (Is that…)

Heathcliff: …...Master Faust, is it your birthday today?

Faust: It’s not. It has nothing to do with me.

Akira: Huh, but...

Faust: If you intend to talk about this any further, then I’ll be cancelling today’s class.

Heathcliff: Ah… I-I’m sorry.

Heathcliff: Master Faust…... Sorry, Master Sage. We'll be going now.

Heathcliff: Thank you so much. See you later.

Akira: Heathcliff, are you there?

Heathcliff: Master Sage? Yes, please wait.

 

[Location: Heathcliff’s room, afternoon]

Akira: Sorry for bothering you so suddenly. Is now a...

Cain: Huh, Akira?

Akira: Cain, everyone… What’s going on?

Cain: I came here because I was worried that Heath felt down after what happened earlier, but...

Nero: 'Sup, Sage. We’re in the middle of ventin’.

Akira: V-Venting? 

Heathcliff: No, well… We went on with our class as planned, but Master Faust was in a really bad mood the whole time.

Nero: Jeez, what’s up with ‘im actin’ like a kid? 

Shino: And he gave us piles of homework. I don't wanna study. I wanna learn how to get stronger, fast.

Heathcliff: ...I don't think there's a need for all of us to gather in my room, though.

Akira: (...Are Shino and Nero worried about Heathcliff, too?)

Heathcliff: So, is there anything you need from me, Master Sage?

Akira: Ah, no. I also came to check if you were feeling okay.

Heathcliff: I-I see. I'm sorry. ...But since you've all come here, can I consult you about something?

Akira: Consult? Sure, please go ahead.

Heathcliff: I think... I still want to celebrate Master Faust's birthday, after all.

Heathcliff: He's the reason why I'm here right now, as one of the Sage's wizards...

Heathcliff: He protected me during our fight against the Great Calamity, and he’s even currently mentoring me... There are a lot of things that I'm grateful to him for.

Heathcliff: I mean... He can be a bit cold at times, but I also know he's also very kind. Master Faust is a teacher I deeply cherish.

Akira: Heathcliff...

Shino: I agree with Heath. It's his birthday, right.

Nero: But Faust won't like that much, will he? Man, we only brought up his birthday to ‘im and he hasn’t stopped actin’ all cranky since.

Faust: Sage.

Akira: Ah, Faust. Hello.

Faust: ...........Have you seen Heath?

Akira: Heathcliff? He's in his room right now, I think.

Faust: ...I see. Sorry for getting in your way.

Akira: Huh, you're going back? Aren’t you going to meet Heathcliff?

Faust: It’s nothing. It’s not a big deal. 

(Faust leaves)

Akira: (Is Faust worried about him, too? ...He really is a very sincere and kind person, isn’t he...)

Faust: ......Hey, why are you following me? What do you want?

Akira: Your birthday, um... We want to celebrate it...

Faust: Hey, come in already.

Akira: I’m sorry for intruding. ...I thought you’d be mad at me.

Faust: Do you want me to be?

Akira: Faust... It really is your birthday today, isn't it?

Faust: Who knows... The longer you live, the less you care about the day you were born.

Faust: That's why I don't know how I feel about celebrating it... or the person who made it into a national holiday, without my permission...

Akira: (...Of course he’d have complicated feelings about the celebration that Central Country puts on.)

Akira: But me... Heathcliff, Shino, and Nero. We all love you, Faust. And that's why we want to celebrate your birthday with you.

Akira: That’s a feeling we’re sure of, at least.

Cain: Now, Shino!

Nero: Got ‘im!

Heathcliff: I’m sorry, Master Faust! Shino, don’t tie him up too tightly!

Shino: Heath, are you doubting my expertise? It’s the right strength.

Faust: …………….

Akira: Faust, I’m really sorry! Are you okay?

Faust: ...Someone, give me an explanation.

Cain: I heard you liked cats, so I borrowed one from the Sage’s secret cat corner.

Shino: The plan was to use the cat as bait, then capture you with my magic when you came out. That part went smoothly.

(Meow)

Faust: ...If only you were all this serious in class.

Cain: So, Faust, now you’ve gotta give up and join us for your birthday party.

Faust: A… party?

Nero: I didn't have enough time to throw together a cake for ya, but I made up for it with a whole lotta the food ya like.

Heathcliff: And I invited the other wizards. They said they'll be coming.

Faust: ...You and your wild ideas…

Cain: Don't think you can escape from us, Faust. Let the fun begin!

Akira: (Cain, you sounded like a villain just now…)

Faust: .........Sigh.

Akira: Faust, is everything okay?

Faust: ......I won’t run away. Not from you guys.

Akira: Could it be...

Akira: (...that he already caught on to our plan and got caught on purpose?)

Heathcliff: Master Sage, let’s go now, shall we?

Akira: ...Of course. Let’s throw the most fun birthday party ever!

Faust: ...Let’s do that in moderation.

Akira: That was a fun party.

Faust: That's not something you should say after tying someone up and dragging him away.

Akira: S-Sorry. We thought you wouldn't come with us unless we took you… somewhat forcefully.

Faust: ...Hmph.

Akira: Did you not like having your birthday celebrated, after all?

Faust: ...It's not that. Nero's food was very good.
