Card Story: My Favorite, To You (Shylock, Mithra, Bradley, Murr, Akira)

Card Episode: Looking for A Bargain (Shylock, Akira)

My Favorite, To You: Chapter 1

[Location: Hallway, evening]

Akira: (I hear a music box…. Is it from Shylock’s bar?)

[Location: Manor’s bar, evening]

Akira: Good evening. Shylock, are you here?

Shylock: Oh, welcome, Master Sage.

Murr: Hellooo, Sageee~!

Mithra: Good evening.

Akira: Mithra!? I thought I finally got you to sleep in the lounge…. Did it not help after all?

Murr: I was in the middle of playing cards with Bradley when Mithra suddenly woke up with a scary face!

Mithra: That is because you couldn’t keep your voice down.

Shylock: He’s right, Murr. You should ask for permission first before making loud noises.

Murr: Allllrighty!

Akira: Um…?

Akira: I see. So you woke up because of Murr and Bradley’s voices while they were playing cards….

Mithra: Yes. It was aggravating, so I sprinkled some pepper on him.

Akira: (I hope Bradley didn’t fly too far…)

Murr: Pepper isn’t enough to make me fly, so I brought Mithra here!

Shylock: In the hopes of allowing him to relax, we’re playing several songs with calming effects.

Akira: Oh, so that was the beautiful melody I heard earlier! So it was from this music box…. What’s this stone-like thing?

Shylock: This is called a musical stone. By putting it inside a music box, it will play the song recorded in its memory.

Akira: Wow, fascinating!

Shylock: There are several of these that haven’t been played. Why don’t you choose one, Master Sage?

Akira: Can I really? Then, I’ll choose this one.

(Music plays)

Akira: The music changed…! It sounds a little more passionate than the last one, like it’s aiming for your heart.

Mithra: It’s too loud. Please choose a quieter one.

Murr: But maybe listening to something loud might tire you out and make you sleepy!

(Murr changes the song)

Mithra: How could I possibly sleep with an even louder song?

Akira: Then, how about this one…?

(Music changes)

Shylock: Now, this is quite a lively song. It seems like a bit of a waste to sleep with this song playing.

Mithra: Are you mocking me?

MIthra: Enough of this tomfoolery. Music is all the same. None of them are making me even the slightest bit drowsy.

Shylock: ...I see. Then, how about this one?

My Favorite, To You: Chapter 2

[Location: Manor's bar, evening]

Mithra: ...Somehow this song sounds familiar.

Akira: Have you heard of this song before, Mithra?

Murr: Ooh, this song sure has a nostalgic feeling to it. Isn’t this a classic? From around the time of the flying fish incident!

Shylock: Centuries ago, there was such an occasion, yes.

Mithra: Did that fish fly over the Western skies too? I wasn’t exactly in short supply of food, but meat always seemed like a better option.

Akira: (Is he talking about eating the flying fish…?)

Mithra:  ...Ah, right. This song sounds a lot like what that woman often hummed.

Mithra: She only ever repeated the catchy part, so it has somewhat lingered in my ears.

Shylock: Long ago, when you first visited my bar with her, this song was quite popular.

Shylock: I played this song at the time as well, so perhaps it left an impression on you?

Mithra: Sigh, I don’t remember that, but this tune is certainly not bad. I suppose I could sleep listening to this.

Mithra: Master Sage, your hand, ple—

(Footsteps)

Bradley: Found ya! Mithra, you bastard!

Akira: W-Welcome back, Bradley…?

Mithra: Huh, you came back already?

Bradley: Grumblin’ about it and flingin’ pepper at me just ‘cause ya can’t sleep… It’s yer fault for sleeping there in the first place.

Mithra: You, daring to tell me what to do? How brazen.

Akira: U-Um, please calm down…

Bradley: Adno Potensum

Mithra: Arsim

Akira: Waaah!

(A loud crash and flash)

A fierce barrage of bullets and magic ensued as soon as Bradley and Mithra chanted their spells.

(Light crash)

Akira: Ah, the music box!

I gulped and nervously looked at Shylock. Mithra and Bradley dropped their fight as soon as  they realized what happened to the music box.

Shylock: The bar is closed for today. Please continue outside.

Akira: (He’s really angry…!)

Murr: Shylock’s angry! We gotta run~!

Bradley: ‘Ey, don’t shove me!

Murr firmly pushed Bradley out of the bar. The place had finally calmed down, but now even the music box stopped playing.

Akira: Is the musical stone okay…?

Shylock: ...It very much seems to be in pieces. It would be difficult to play this song again.

Mithra: Surely you can fix it with magic? It isn’t impossible, even for you.

Shylock: I prefer not to. Everything that takes form will break either sooner or later. This musical note might have been destined to break right here and now.

Shylock’s face was tender as he caressed the stone. It’s so like him to not rely on magic and let things happen as they happen.

Akira: That was a wonderful song. It’s sad that we can’t listen to it anymore.

Shylock: Ah, then in that case….

My Favorite, To You: Chapter 3

[Location: Manor's bar, evening]

Shylock: Since that song was quite famous, some of Bar Bennett’s patrons brought me the musical stones for it. I should be able to locate at least one more.

Shylock: Therefore, please wipe the sorrow off your face, Master Sage. If you like that song, then I shall go and bring it from my bar.

Akira: I see! I’ll be happy if we can listen to it again.

Mithra: Arsim

Shylock: Oh?

Mithra suddenly cast his spell and a familiar door appeared. It seemed to be connected to Bar Bennett.

Mithra: I feel like that song might be able to help me sleep. If you have another reserve of it, please bring it here straight away.

Shylock: …Fufu, very well. I shall bring back some other musical stones while we have the chance.

Shylock: Master Sage, will you help me pick them out?

Akira: Sure!

[Location: Bar Bennett]

Shylock: Ah, here it is. This is the musical stone of that song.

Shylock: Now, let’s choose some to bring back from this selection. May I ask your preferred genre, Master Sage?

Akira: Hmm…. I don’t know much about the music in this world. Please take your favorites, Shylock.

Shylock: You want me to choose?

Akira: Yes. I’m sure your song of choice will be a wonderful one.

Shylock: My, you really know how to please me. You leave me with no choice but to present you with my favorite.

Shylock: Then, you may take this one.

Akira: Thank you very much, I’ll look forward to listening to it in the manor’s bar!

Shylock: Oh, please keep this one with you.

Akira: Huh? Are you sure?

Shylock: Yes. We don’t know if the stone will stay in one piece forever. In another way, the hassle of such an incident could bring along a new delight.

Shylock: But a mildly unruly patron will sometimes come by my bar. It would be a pity if it breaks before you have the opportunity to hear it, no?

Akira: Ahaha, you’re right… I’ll take good care of this.

Shylock: Please do. I’m certain the stone would be truly grateful.

Mithra: Goodness, what’s taking you so long? If you found it, please hurry it up.

Shylock: Fufu, it’s nothing.

Akira: We’re coming back now!

I held the musical stone carefully, like I would a delicate treasure.

Card Episode: Looking for A Bargain

[Location: Manor’s bar, evening]

Akira: I see you’re playing the music with the phonograph today. It makes the room cozy and the drink you made taste even better.

Shylock: Thank you very much. If you happen to have a song you’d like to hear, you're welcome to make a request.

Akira: I do, but for now I want to listen to the song you chose.

Akira: Oh, right. Among all the songs you’ve listened to, did any of them leave a big impression on you?

Shylock: I suppose that would be a song with an irregular time signature that a certain colony dances to.

Akira: An irregular time signature?

Shylock: Yes, the ones that purposely ruin the more common, simple time signature. Back then, I spent some time wondering just how one is supposed to dance to this tune.

Shylock: But as I listened to it, it started to sound natural, and I gradually became fascinated. The main melody was rich in variations, too.

Akira: Wow, I’d like to hear it someday!

Shylock: The musical stone isn’t mine, I’m afraid, so I don’t happen to have it with me right now….

Shylock: How about we pay a visit to the flea market in the West next time? In such a place, there are plenty of bargains, and we may be able to find one.

Shylock: And when we do, let’s play the music here. I want to hear your thoughts about the song as well.

Akira: Okay, I’m looking forward to it!

Special Home Screen Line

Shylock: Come now, Murr, mind your manners. The Master Sage is troubled, you see. ...My apologies, Master Sage. I will make sure to discipline him after this.
