In The Midst Of Our Prosperous Life: Chapter 1
[Location: Kitchen, morning]
Akira: Wow… A pancake sandwich!
One afternoon, I received a basket of food from Nero, bearing a lunch consisting of pancakes, fried eggs, and salad.
Nero: There’s enough for ya in there, so you can eat it with Teach if you want, or you can just take it with you to yer room.
Akira: Thank you so much, Nero. I’m sure Faust will be glad to hear that.
Arthur: Did something happen with Faust?
Akira: Hi, Arthur.
Nero: Nothin', he’s just up to his ol’ shut-in ways, so I thought I oughta send him some food.
Akira: Nero prepared his lunch, and because I’m worried about Faust too, I asked him if I could deliver it to his room.
Arthur: I see. Lunch, huh...
Arthur: Master Sage, would you mind if I went with you?
Arthur: I don’t think I’ve had a lot of chances to converse with Faust, so it would be nice if I could take this as an opportunity to do so.
Akira: (Well, I don’t mind if Arthur comes with me, but…)
Nero: ......Maybe next time.
Nero: Ya know how reclusive he can get. Ye might get scratched by a cat that ain’t too familiar with you yet if you show up there out o’ the blue.
Arthur: ...I see. If Nero, another Eastern wizard, says so, then it must be right.
Arthur: Thank you. I’ll find another chance to talk with Faust. Master Sage, please send him my best regards.
[Location: Faust’s room]
Faust: Sage? What’s with the sudden visit?
Akira: I was worried because I haven’t seen you these past few days, even during meal times.
Akira: Nero made lunch for us. If you like, we can eat it together.
Faust: ...I appreciate your concern, but you should eat that with another wizard. I won’t be able to offer you a worthwhile time.

I felt the air around us soften as I watched Faust chuckle.
While engaging in a bit of casual conversation, I suddenly remembered what Arthur told Nero and me earlier.

Faust: About Arthur...?

Akira: Actually...
Faust had a complicated expression while I told him about the exchange Nero and I had with Arthur in the kitchen.
Faust: He shouldn't even think of involving himself with me. If it isn’t obvious enough, I’m just a gloomy maledictor.
Faust: What would become of the Central's crown prince if he were to have any sort of association with a person like me? That would only tarnish his reputation.
Akira: Faust......
His voice was flat and cold, but I could tell his words were spoken out of consideration for Arthur.
Faust: ......That, and sometimes I feel like I regard him as someone he's not.
Faust: That’s very rude to him. It’s not like Arthur himself has done anything wrong...
He said the last sentence in a whisper, like he was talking to himself.
Faust: Anyway, there’s no need for you to worry about Arthur or me.
Akira: ............
It felt like I was stepping into sensitive territory, and I couldn't say anything more after that.
Faust: Thanks for the food. I’ll tell Nero I liked it later.

I immediately rushed out to the courtyard and found Arthur floating upside down mid-air, a hair’s breadth away from hitting the ground.
With a cat in his arms, he slowly turned and properly positioned himself in the air.
Arthur: I’m sorry for causing you worry, Master Sage.
Arthur: I was trying to save this cat I found stuck and trembling on a tree branch...
Arthur: But when I tried to pick it up, it scratched my face and I slipped.
Akira: So that’s what happened... I’m glad you’re okay.
Arthur: It’s all thanks to Faust. He used magic to prevent me from falling to the ground.
Arthur: Thank you, Faust.
Faust: ......You... You’re an idiot!
Arthur: !
Faust: You’re a wizard, why didn’t you think of using magic? What would you do if you actually fell and ended up hitting your head?
Arthur: ............

Faust: What are you laughing about? That was no laughing matter. You were about to be badly hurt just now.

Faust: ...............

Faust: I’m not as good of a teacher as Arthur says I am. I’m not at all cut out for it, or for being a wizard who will save the world.
Faust: I've been annoyed by the role of the Sage's wizard ever since I became one. Even today was a mess.
Akira: Faust...
Faust: ...But having lunch with you certainly wasn’t bad, nor was the taste of those pancakes.
Faust: And it wasn't too bad to see Arthur’s surprised face when the cat licked him.
Akira: ...Ahaha! Then it’s all good.
Faust: It's strange, to be honest….
That was what Faust grumbled as he adjusted his hat. Seeing him like this secretly put a smile on my face.
Card Episode: When I Met You

Faust: You want to know my first impression of you?
Akira: Yes. I want to know what you thought of me when we first met.
Faust: I was on the verge of death at the time... So that’s a little hard to answer.
